SABC: SA should consider legalising sex work: Ramaphosa

11 March 2016 Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says the country should consider the legalisation of sex work as it is recognised by the Constitution. He was speaking at the launch of the National Aids Council Sex Worker HIV Plan. The plan includes targets to reduce the prevalence of HIV/Aids among sex workers. The initiative has been welcomed by United Nations Programme on HIV/Aids which says it is the first of its kind on the continent. Ramaphosa says sex workers, who are arrested, will now receive legal assistance and called for dialogue on sex workers at the launch of the South African National Sex Worker HIV Plan. “This plan aims to sensitise health care providers, social workers and law enforcement officials on the rights of sex workers.
